In 1986, renowned horseman Drew Nardiello was presented with an opportunity to capitalize on his experience and successes generated from a life spent entirely in the Thoroughbred industry. At the urging of several committed clients, Nardiello and his wife, Nancy, established pastoral Chesapeake Farm in the heart of Lexington horse country.

The Nardiellos’ mission was simple: the nursery was founded with the intent of providing professional, incomparable service to owners and breeders from throughout the world. Since its founding, Chesapeake has grown to accommodate more and more owners who have embraced “The Chesapeake Way” of equine management. Central to that philosophy is a dedicated commitment to the horse – one that incorporates techniques and insights derived from generations of involvement in the Thoroughbred industry.

Chesapeake Farm clients have become accustomed to the very best care for their mares, sales horses and racing prospects. Horsemen have responded in kind, which has helped Chesapeake expand from a modest 120-acre facility with 30 stalls to a 400-acre facility that currently houses 100 stalls in eight barns and four run-in sheds.

During its nearly two decades of existence, Chesapeake has realized unqualified success in virtually all disciplines of the industry. In the early 1990s, Nardiello consigned and sold such notable horses as Maplejinsky, who topped the 1992 Keeneland November bloodstock sale when she sold for $2.1 million. He has bred and raised innumerable stakes horses – including Chato, Lindsey Jean and Mayo on the Side – and he has managed the racing portfolios for several dedicated clients.

Though its operation has grown physically, Chesapeake still prides itself on providing exhaustive personal attention for every horse in its care. It is that mindset which allows Nardiello and his staff to maximize the performance of their clients’ equine portfolios. Though trivialized by some, it is those extra steps that help fully develop our horses’ potential, regardless of the track or sales ring in which it will perform. And it is that mindset which sets Chesapeake Farm apart in the Thoroughbred industry.
